Timbuktu (1958) Victor Mature, Yvonne De Carlo

Full Movie

In French Sudan, the Tuareg people are rebelling against the colonists. Col. Dufort, ordered to take command of the French troops in Timbuktu, Mali, arrives with his wife, Natalie, in tow. Dufort's primary initiative is to see that a respected Tuareg religious leader makes it to the city for peace talks. When the holy man goes missing, Dufort hires American adventurer Mike Conway to track him down before the Tuareg uprising gets out of hand.

Timbuktu is nowhere near as good as some other wartime classics, but it was good enough to keep my interest. In one scene a soldier is staked out on the ground and tarantulas are released and kill him.John Dehner as the Emir Bhaki reminded me of rolls he played in old TV shows like The Wild Wild West. This film could have been better. I would have liked to see it in Technicolor, also I feel it could have been edited and photographed better. Not a movie I would watch again so I give Timbukutu ★★1/2
