House by the River (1950) Louis Hayward

A deranged writer murders a maid after she resists his advances. The writer engages his brother's help in hiding the body, and then watches as the brother becomes the prime suspect.

Louis Hayward plays a frustrated novelist who makes a big mistake when he attempts to seduce the house maid.  I mean this guy is a real jerk, he's married to the beautiful Jane Wyatt, and he wants a piece of all the action. He murders the maid and becomes obsessed with the feeling that his victim may not be dead. I found House By The River to be a dark and suspenseful masterpiece from a great director.★★★
