Director:

Gordon Parks

Writers:

Gordon Parks (novel), Gordon Parks (screenplay)

Stars:

Newt is a teenage boy growing up in 1920's Kansas. This is the story of his life at that time and the people that influenced him. When Newt reluctantly steals some apples, this sets the stage for the events that lead to murder and the boys understanding of what it means to do the right thing. The photography and story are beautifully done by the famed Life photographer Gordon Parks. The cast and acting were good, of special note is Jimmy Rushing as the owner of a whore house. Rushing was a blues and jazz singer and pianist who was best known as the featured vocalist of the Count Basie Orchestra, he died about two years after this film was made.★★★
